Johannes Dercks (3rd from left) lived with Columbus Kortings in 1998 and 1999. Grant Korting (right) lived with the Dercks family in 1999 and 2000.

The family of Hans Korting, likely taken sometime in the late 1980's. 
According to Hans Korting, the burial place of Johann Korting, (born 1799). He has no head stone. The walkway (path)  was expanded sometime in the last 150 years to accommodate the expanded burial area (left of the photo) for the village Catholic priests. His exact burial area is thought to be under the "Z" hedge on the right. He is the common ancestor to the Kortings of Columbus, Michigan and the Overfield Families of Columbus.
War Monument, Kapellen. In the lower right, the sign reads "ZIVILE OPFER" or "Civilian Sacrifice" The name "Korting, Johann" is the fourth from the bottom, lower right.

During the first week of  March 1945, the "front" passed through Kapellen. When the German troops had retreated to the east, they shelled the occupying British troops (including the famous British General Montgomery). When he went to check on his family, Hans' Korting's father, Johann Korting (2/25/1894 to 3/4/1945), was killed by German Artillery shells.

Two "Kortings" in June 2000. Zoe, of Hannover Germany,  is the granddaughter of Hans Korting. Deb Korting is the wife of the mother's third cousin.
